Having Tea With My Grandmother

During an informal office Zoom meeting, it was observed that one of my coworkers was drinking from an interesting mug.

"It was my grandmother's," she explained. "It's kind of plain so nobody else wanted it after she passed away, but it was her favorite mug and that's why I wanted it. Now, when I use it, I feel like I'm having coffee with my grandmother."

For some reason, that resonated with me deeply. I have a small collection of cups and mugs that I use regularly, most of them given to me by someone I love. Now when I have a hot drink, I choose a cup because I want to feel the comforting, almost-tangible, sense of the person it represents. The teacup below belonged to my grandmother, who gave it to my brother, who then gave it to my sister, who later gave it to me - and I enjoy thinking of each one when I use this cup. So, if you'll excuse me, tea has been poured, my "guests" are waiting, and this post is becoming overly long....
